Not Sure Which Turkish Towel to Try First? A Guide for Beginners

Turkish towels, othwerwise known as peshtemals, are definitely having a moment right now. And if you've never tried one before, you're in for a real treat! They're soft, absorbent, and perfect for summertime beach use or as an everyday bath towel. But with so many different options on the market, it can be tough to know which one to buy first. This guide is meant to help beginners decide which Turkish towel is right for them. Happy shopping!

One of the most common questions we receive from people who visit our website is: "I've heard great things about Turkish towels but am not sure which one is right for me, can you help"? And the answer to that question is a big YES! While we have many Turkish towel options on our site, we're happy to point out which ones might be best for those dipping their toes into the Turkish towel waters. Our most popular towels are from our stonewashed collection. These are beautiful peshtemals that have been dyed and then washed with small pebbles to give them a "broken-in" look. They're soft to the touch and also become softer and more absorbent with each wash. They make great bath towels and because of the tight weave, they are also sand resistant making them a great choice for the beach as well. These towels are thin - just slightly thicker than a bed sheet but they dry you off quickly. The stonewashed collection comes in a variety of colors, so there's definitely one that will appeal to you.

If you're interested in Turkish towels but just not sure if they are right for you, our half-terry collection may be the way to go. These towels have more weight to them then the thinner peshtemals because they have a soft layer of terry cloth on the back side (no terry on the front) but are still thinner than your standard terry towel. They make great bath towels and are absorbent enough to use as a beach towel as well. The half-terry collection is available in many striped color combinations, so you can choose the one that best suits your style.

For those of you who want the luxurious feel of a Turkish towel and like the idea of Turkish cotton, but still want a thick, plush towel, our full terry may be the way to go. These towels are a statement piece in any bathroom or on the beach due to their unique designs and bright color combinations. These will remind you of your typical terry towels but you will find them to be more absorbent and more luxurious to the touch.

And lastly, if you're looking to dive right into the Turkish towel world with a thin peshtemal I highly recommend our jacquard collection. These towels are thin, soft and absorbent BUT as a Turkish towel newbie there are some things you need to know. First, these towels are thin and if you're used to a thicker bath towel they may take some getting used to but we find that once people give them a try, they are converted and no longer want to use their thick bulky towels again. Also, Turkish towels need to be broken in. Not all of them are soft out of the package. You should always wash your towel before first use. You will find that the towel will become softer and more absorbent with each wash, reaching it's full potential after about 6 washes (but no worries, you can use it between washes while it breaks in). These towels fold up small and take up less space in your linen closet or suitcase and you may just find that once you get used to them, you prefer them over standard towels!

Whether you're a Turkish towel beginner or an experienced pro, we've got the perfect towel for you. Happy shopping!
